The month starts with a strong Capricorn focus, we might experience this as responsibility, structure and long-term commitments; new year’s resolutions. It’s important to reflect on what’s been limiting us and where more discipline is necessary. As the month goes on, the focus shifts to Aquarius and to change, innovation and a focus on the future. Throughout January, Pluto plays a strong role, intensifying the month with its transformation and change.
January 1st – Mercury enters Capricorn, Capricorn 00°00’
The planet of communication, intellect and reasoning is entering the grounded and disciplined sign of Capricorn. With Capricorn ruled by Saturn, conversations can take a serious tone, and you might feel a sharp mental focus.
It’s a strong time to get our mental pursuits in order and to translate thought into action. Long-overdue conversations can be held with maturity. However, be mindful of Capricorn’s rigidity and the thin line to a cold tone or harshness; your way isn’t the only way.
January 2nd – Chiron Direct, Aries 22°35’
As Chiron moves direct, it’s a great time to face the wounds that have come up during its retrograde. It may feel overwhelming and intense to be confronted with what hurts. Now that Chiron is direct, it’s an amazing time to face it head-on and use that fiery Aries energy to make some real progress. Aries brings courage and initiative to face discomfort. This is a well-suited time to take small but brave steps: having conversations you’ve avoided, speaking openly and being vulnerable.
January 3rd – Full Moon in Cancer, Cancer 13°01’
This Full Moon in Cancer heightens emotional sensitivity; feelings may be intense, raw and difficult to handle. It’s important to realise others also feel this influence and might react more emotionally than you’d expect.
The Full Moon in Cancer opposes the many Capricorn placements at this moment, creating a real push and pull between your responsibilities and taking a step back. An imbalance between heart and head can make you feel extra torn at this moment.
January 6th – Sun conjunction Venus, Capricorn 16°22’
This conjunction softens Capricorn’s rigid core, bringing warmth to relationships, creativity and a motivation to be the best version of ourselves in our relationships. It’s a good time to spend some intentional time with loved ones and make some meaningful gestures.
January 8th – Venus conjunction Mars, Capricorn 18°09’
This is an intense conjunction, combining romance and desire with drive and passion. Creative energies are high, and you may feel a heightened motivation to work on your projects. It’s important to be mindful of impulses and their long-term consequences.
January 9th – Sun conjunction Mars, Capricorn 19°12’
The previous conjunctions are followed by another intense one; there is a lot of fiery energy leading to extremes, confidence, and action. It’s a good time to start new projects and let yourself be motivated by this intense energy, but to be aware of potential burnout; don’t overfill your plate.
January 17th – Venus enters Aquarius, Aquarius 00°00’
When Venus enters Aquarius, we may feel the shift to independence, friendship and ideals. You may feel a pull to connect with your loved ones, friends, or other communities. This transit opens the way to new ideas, approaches and experiments.
January 18th – Mercury conjunction Mars, Capricorn 26°03’
Communication can feel direct, fast and impulsive. We should be careful to filter our words when necessary and not to be too harsh. This conjunction can be useful to have honest and decisive conversations, but it isn’t a good time for direct confrontation.
January 18th – New Moon in Capricorn, Capricorn 28°43’
This New Moon is a great time to reflect on the plans we’ve made, what’s been holding us back and what’s been limiting us. Which lessons seem to repeat over and over? And where do we need more responsibility? Perhaps some projects we’ve started earlier this month weren’t in our best interest or are lacking the attention needed.
What is better left in the past to move forward?
January 20th – Sun enters Aquarius, Aquarius 00°00’
When the Sun enters Aquarius, we might feel a shift outwards. We may feel extra creative, with out-of-the-box ideas and big plans. Aquarius is ruled by Uranus; expect the unexpected. Sudden changes and unique paths can show up in our path.
January 20th – Venus conjunction Pluto, Aquarius 03°19’
This conjunction can feel very limiting, transformative and intense, especially in our relationships. We can no longer ignore the imbalances and power dynamics. Connections that we’ve been stubbornly holding onto may need to be released, while with our most loved ones, we transition for the better.
January 20th – Mercury enters Aquarius, Aquarius 00°00’
When Mercury enters the air-sign of Aquarius, it encourages unique and eye-opening conversations. It’s a good time for public speaking, innovative ideas and bright conversations. Your ideas may feel ahead of their time, leading to some misunderstandings or confusion.
January 21st – Sun conjunction Mercury, Aquarius 01°36’
With all this Aquarius energy and its focus outwards, your innovative ideas may gain a lot of visibility. Ideas, opinions and perspectives may receive more attention than expected. You might be feeling a spotlight on your words.
January 22nd – Mercury conjunction Pluto, Aquarius 03°23’
Communication takes a deeper, more intense turn. Certain truths may come to light that feel uncomfortable or were more comfortable to ignore or bury deep. Perhaps our innovative conversations led us down an unexpected path where we have to leave our comfort zone behind.
January 23rd – Mars enters Aquarius, Aquarius 00°00’
On the 23rd, Mars joins us in the sign of Aquarius, a real push to make our innovative thoughts come to fruition. Full of motivation and drive, you can be met with restraint or a feeling that the people around you aren’t ready to hear what you have to say. Change is scary; don’t push your ideas too harshly onto others.
January 23rd – Sun conjunction Pluto, Aquarius 03°25’
This may feel like one of the most intense moments of the month; feelings of restraint, limits, change and transformation might be extra noticeable today. As the Sun conjuncts Pluto, feelings of rebirth and issues with authority gain light. Pluto’s change and intense transformation may feel extra uncomfortable in the Sun’s spotlight.
January 26th – Neptune enters Aries, Aries 00°00’
Neptune is a very slow-moving planet; it changes sign every 14 years. It’s showing a transition into a long-term cycle.
Neptune entered Aries earlier this year (March) but has, since its retrograde (July), moved back into Pisces (October) and has, since December 10th, moved Direct; we are retracing our steps.
The transition from Pisces into Aries represents a push to materialise our dreams and ideas, but because of the retrograde, we were sent back to the drawing board to reflect. It’s encouraged to look back on our ideas of the year. What dreams have we been trying to manifest? Are those dreams still worth chasing, or have we embarked on a new path? It’s a great time for trial and error, as Neptune won’t be in Pisces again for over a century; it’s time for action.
January 27th – Mars conjunction Pluto, Aquarius 03°34’
Our actions can be extra impactful, leading to real change and transformation. Beware of how you use this energy, as it may feel confrontational and irreversible. Being overly driven can lead to conflict, while intentional motivation can be life-changing.
January 29th – Mercury conjunction Venus, Aquarius 14°56’
We are ending January with a pleasant conjunction; it’s a great time to communicate with loved ones and open our hearts up. We are encouraged to communicate and speak about our creative endeavours and passions.
Conclusion
January is a month of beginnings and planning. What long-term ideals are worth chasing, and where is responsibility needed? What do we want to express outward when Aquarius hits? It’s important to get our ducks in a row before we reach the end of January, where Pluto catalyses the change we’re pursuing.
It is a great month for planning, redefining goals and chasing the change we want to see. However, it’s important to be mindful of pushing your ideals onto others in a harsh and confrontational way. Others may not move at the speed you do.
